All Star focused on trading with Japan & was successful until hostilities between the two countries erupted in 1941. After WW11 Aratani re-opened his business & began focusing on importing China from Japan & in 1950 changed the company name to Mikasa, which means "three umbrellas" in Japanese. Mikasa Inc. remains a leader in casual dinnerware & unlike most of its competitors doesn't own manufacturing facilities but contracts out to 175 factories spanning 25 countries. This allowed Mikasa to introduce numerous patterns into the market each year & capitalize on the most popular. Mikasa Inc now distributes dinnerware through their own name as well as Christopher Stuart, Home Beautiful, & Studio Nova.
