Description
A ceramic Chinese Foo Lion made of what looks like sewer tile clay. The clay has a bit of pinkish color to it, which bay be iron residue. This piece is beautifully sculpted with lots of carved relief work applied. The detailing is very well done around the head dress & face area. I think the piece was done in the first half of the twentieth century. Known as part of the republic period. There is a nice two tone greenish color applied, a dark to a grass green. These colors mix well almost disappearing into one another as you move around the body. Then there is a gold gilding splashed on for highlight. The statue stands 12" tall & is 8" long by 4" wide. There are some chipped pieces on it, three on the head dress & the right leg area. View the photos & if you want more pictures I got them.
