Description

Perfect as a paperweight, or simply as an object of beauty & antique metal art craftsmanship; in keeping with the Orientalist metal art being produced at the time, most notably by Franz Xaver Bergmann & Georg Heyde, this antique Austrian "Coronet of Austria" spelter metal figure of a lass seated on a rug wearing a flowing short sleeved dress & a ribbon in her hair is 2" in height, 5" in width, & 3 1/4" in depth. When I first spotted it I thought it was a complete metal object of art... but it is not. On closer inspection, I saw that it had a small piece of wire barely attached to the underside back of the rug running width wise, & I realized that it was the remains of a piano hinge, & that this was originally the hinged lid of a trinket box. The only way one can tell that it was a lid is by looking at the bottom of the rug & observing the almost completely unnoticeable groove running across the back of the rug (photo #9 at 16 X magnification). Photo #10 is for illustration purposes only, & shows how this item listing would have functioned as the lid of a similar trinket box.
