Born to Jewish parents in Prussia, she later studied philosophy under Heidegger, Husserl, & Jaspers at Marburg, Freiburg, & Heidelberg, respectively. Forced to flee Germany with her husband in the early '30s, she became a refugee in France only to escape internment ahead of the German invasion there. She eventually settled in New York, becoming a prominent activist, columnist, & visiting scholar at many notable American Universities. Most known for her work on totalitarianism & coining the term "the banality of evil" in her coverage of the Eichmann trial in Jerusalem. Illustration time: Six hours.
