Created this pattern from rubbings on various NYC manhole covers, specifically covers made by foundries in NYC. Like the Native Americans whose culture and history lie beneath these manholes, the foundries of the 1800s and early 1900s are a thing of the past and do not thrive anymore. NYC manhole production is now outsourced and made in India.
