Brian was born and raised in the Allegheny foothills of Pennsylvania, where he grew up as a foster brother to fifteen infant siblings. He attended Catholic grade school before moving onto Pittsburgh Central Catholic High School, graduating in the top 20% of his class and tutoring underclassmen as a member of the National Honor Society.
