When a company implements SAP, they usually engage a consulting agency to mass cleanse and mass load all their master data from their legacy system(s). They design and load the company structures based on locations as well as production or processes. The assets of value are loaded with perhaps detailed sub-structures, assemblies, spare parts and consumables for servicing. Sometimes this loading is not accomplished following best practices as to the use of templates (Reference Functional Locations) or common assemblies of bills of materials for common assets based on manufacturer and model as well as function. Duplication of efforts in creation and future management create problems and waste time. After the consultants leave, often no one is adequately trained in how best to manage all the corporation's asset master data with a corporate wide scope towards efficiency, accuracy and reduced effort.
