Calathea roseopicta 'Medallion', also known as Calathea veitchiana 'Medallion', is a pet-safe prayer plant gem from Southern America. This showy calathea is prized for the unique feather-like, multi-color patterns on its leaves. The silver and greens on top are brilliantly contrasted by the deep burgundy or plum color on the underside. Its stunning foliage and unique pattern, an example of nature's amazingly artistic handiwork, make Calathea 'Medallion' a standout piece in any room, on a plant stand, ledge, shelf or tabletop. Pair with solid green or dark-leaved houseplants to really bring out those patterns or plants with silver- or white-heavy foliage. Calathea 'Medallion' thrives in bright, indirect light and requires consistently moist soil. Will tolerate low light, though may lose some of its vibrancy. It's important to avoid overwatering and ensure good drainage to prevent root rot. Distilled water, filtered water or rainwater preferred. The plant prefers high humidity and temperatures between 65-80°F. Use a humidifier, pebble tray or group with other plants to give this leafy rainforest medallion a humidity boost. Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during the growing season to encourage healthy growth.
