Description
Forsythia is 1 of the first deciduous flowering shrubs to bloom in the spring. The bright yellow blooms of forsythia are amazing. While most other plants are still dormant from the winter freeze, forsythia creates an anticipation for the warmer months by bursting into color during the early weeks of spring. It is commonly used in groups as a screen/buffer or hedge and has a fast growth rate; they are commonly used in naturalized areas as well. Although its natural habit is wildly, forsythia will tolerate being shaped into a neat hedge. Forsythia is hardy from growing zones 5 to 9. It will tolerate full sun to partial shade but needs at least 6-hours of full sun for vigorous bloom. Forsythia will tolerate most kinds of soil if it drains well. This plant does not thrive in soggy conditions but, once established, will tolerate drought.
