Description
With his son at the piano the sculpture made by Matisse at the bottom left of the painting and Matisses painting woman on a high stool began with a naturalistic theme to his art before he started eliminating detail as he worked. He would scrape down areas and rebuild them in broad fields of colors - just as in this specific painting it evokes a specific moment in time where the light darkens the interior the triangle of shadow on Pierres face and the rhyming green triangle of light falling onto the garden. The window frame and the stippling on the left side produce a pitted quality that suggests the eroding effects of light or time reiterated by the presence of the metronome and burning candle on the piano. Frame description black matte frame. Color: Light Purple.
