Description
This easy-to-grow Nuttall Oak tree Quercus is perfect for a beautiful, low maintenance shade tree in home gardens. The Nuttall oak tree is prized for its fall color as well, in mid to late fall its lobed leaves will turn bright red before being shed as all deciduous trees do. The Nuttall oak leaf can grow up to 4-8 inches long. The tree will flower in April and May with yellow green flowers that shed pollen. The fast growth habit of this tree is magnificent! This vase shaped, fast growing tree is one of our favorite species of oaks and nut trees that grows native to North America. It has the same shape as a pin oak with upper ascending branching and lower vertical branches. You can commonly see this fast growing acorn tree growing along the Mississippi river basin all the way to southern Illinois to East Texas and Alabama. It can tolerate wet planting sites. Its acorns are a favorite among wildlife such as ducks, deer and squirrels! The tree's acorns in its upper branches will begin to ripen in autumn in their second year and are dark brown in color. Acorn production will increase year after year.
