This hammer was originally designed to hit steel as a replacemnt to those using brass, bronze, lead, and steel hammers in industrial settings. It will not mushroom, or produce dangerous sharpnel making this a much safer alternative to traditional steel hammers. There is also no way that the steel shot can escape the welded steel housing which is a constant concern with normal polyurethane covered dead blow hammers.
