The Romeo Cleyera from the Southern Living Plant Collection is a dynamic beauty for any landscape. This selection produces dark green foliage with buttery golden-yellow edges. In fall and winter, its foliage takes on a rosy hue, creating some seasonal interest in your garden. These leaves are leathery, glossy and pointed on the end. Expect this evergreen to provide consistent coverage in your landscape all-year long. At maturity, it reaches 8 ft. - 10 ft. tall and 5 ft. - 6 ft. W. Therefore, if left to grow freely it makes a dynamite privacy screen. It has a somewhat slow growth rate, though, so a yearly pruning easily keeps it at your desired size. It excels as an accent in a mixed garden bed, as a container plant or as a showy hedge. The Romeo Cleyera is hardy from USDA Zones 7-10. Allow for full sun to light shade exposure for best results. Plant in slightly acidic soil with good drainage. Water 2-3 times per week for the first growing season. Fertilize yearly in spring with an acidic plant fertilizer to encourage new growth. These clever plants are well-rooted in 2 Gal. pots and are approximately 12 in. - 16 in. tall.
