Just when other blossoms begin to fade away, Orchid Satin flowers come into full bloom. These highly fragrant flowers contain a perfectly complementing color scheme inside, with bright shades of lavender sharply yet gracefully shifting to scarlet red in the heart of the flowers. The light green leaves are serrated and oak-shaped like many Hibiscus varieties, giving this shrub visual appeal even when not in full bloom. Fall color is a bright shade of yellow until the plant goes dormant in late autumn after continuous frosts occur. Orchid Satin Rose of Sharon reaches heights of 5 ft. to 8 ft. with a spread of 6 ft. at maturity, but can of course be kept at any size smaller with regular pruning. These blossoms may appear delicate, but the truth is, they are anything but fragile. Orchid Satin is highly deer-resistant, heat and drought tolerant, cold-hardy down to minus 15°F, as well as tolerant of high humidity. Additionally, this flowering shrub is highly resistant to the spots and mildew which occur on most shrubs in climates with high humidity. Massive everblooming lavender and scarlet flowers measure 3 in. to 5 in. across and bloom for months at a time, while the plant itself is among the hardiest and most pest-resistant. This is a perfect colorful addition to any landscape in any warm climate and almost any colder climate.
