The Messier Catalogue is a list of astronomical objects containing the most spectacular examples of diffuse nebulae, planetary nebulae, open clusters, globular clusters and galaxies visible from European latitudes. Started by the French astronomer, Charles Messier, in collaboration with his assistant, Pierre Méchain, his final list of 103 objects was subsequently added to by other astronomers to create the list of 110 objects featured in this design. M102 has not been identified unambiguously; Pierre Méchain stated that it was a duplicate observation of M101, but there are good reasons to believe it could be NGC 5866 and it is that galaxy that is included in this design. PLEASE NOTE: this design looks best at A0 (838mm x 1190mm) or A1 (592mm x 840mm) and small text will probably not come out too well on anything smaller t
