Description
On a sprawling lotus base with two layers of petals, the Buddha is seated in padmasana with the soles of his feet turned upwards. Three of his supernatural signs of greatness - the urna between the eyebrows, the elongated earlobes and the ushnisha at the top of the head - all are clearly delineated. The coils of his hair are like small snails crawling over his scalp. He has heavily arched eyebrows, which are followed by semi-closed, introspective eyes. His nose is sharp and pointed and the gentle lips are pursed with the lower being slightly thicker than the upper. His flowing drape covers only the left shoulder and leaves the right side bare. It is a richly decorated robe, with a particularly ornamental border. The folds of the garment collect and fall at the feet of the Buddha - as if paying their own homage to the 'Blessed One.'
