Goddess Tara is considered one of the most benevolent deities in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. Her birth is related to many legends. One of the legends says that she was born from the tears of Avalokiteshwara and, hence, is the most compassionate. Another legend says that she was a woman who meditated for billions of years to avoid a male birth and helped cure the pain and misery in the world.
