Description

More of the Story: This March 17, this 1801 Document was written by the President Jefferson regarding U.S. affairs with France, the XYZ Affair and other topics. The original document was physically transferred to this ORIGINAL PAPER on the Letterpress that Thomas Jefferson invented & used in the White House. The word " Different" is clipped from that document..Because government officials and especially diplomats were required to make multiple copies of their correspondence, these officials were usually assigned secretaries. In 1783, after seeing a letter made by John Adams using a very large Letterpress in England, Jefferson ordered such a machine for himself. He then invented a smaller Letterpress for himself that he could use when he traveled.
