Description

Tommy Broom is one of the RAF's most legendary and popular heroes of World War II. He joined the service at eighteen in 1932, and first saw action against Germany with No 105(B) Squadron. He continued to combine front-line flying with spells at 13 Operational Training Unit at Bicester, teaching newly-trained navigators the additional skills required for combat situations. Tommy teamed up with a namesake as his pilot, Ivor Broom - they became known as the Flying Brooms - and they completed 57 operations together. The good nature and quiet confidence of this brilliant navigator drew praise from both pilots and those he trained.
