Cassie Robichaud is a 35-year-old widow living and working in New Orleans. After the death of her abusive ex, her life shrinks down to several blocks between home and the Cafe Rose where she works as a lowly lunch waitress. When a mysterious and beautiful woman drops a diary in the restaurant, Cassie can't resist reading the revealing and enticing sexual secrets it contains. It is through this diary, and the encounters that occur after, that Cassie is introduced to S.E.C.R.E.T., an underground society where sexually liberated anonymous women of all ages help other women realize their sexual fantasies. They're from all walks of life, but they have one thing in common: they once felt undesirable, and now they don't. And they each wear a gold bracelet festooned with charms commemorating each of their steps towards sexual liberation. Cassie becomes the next participant in S.E.C.R.E.T., where over the course of a year, she experiences nine sexual fantasies, then a choice, each step bringing her closer to her own sexual fulfullment and awakening. The completion of each step comes after S.E.C.R.E.T. recreates one of Cassie's own fantasies, fantasies that escalate in intensity and take place all over New Orleans and elsewhere, but mostly in The Mansion (think Hugh Hefner minus the bunnies), the stately headquarters of S.E.C.R.E.T, in the heart of the Garden District. Little by little, Cassie evolves from a mousy, repressed frump into a fully sexually alive and vibrant woman.
