Its premiere inspired great interest due to its innovative technical features and modern design. The DS 19 was known for its unique appearance, featuring a slim silhouette, streamlined shape and chrome accents. The Citron DS 19 was the car often used by Charles de Gaulle, the French president from 1959-1969. The DS 19 was the perfect diplomatic vehicle, offering plenty of space in the passenger compartment and comfortable leather-upholstered seats. As a presidential car, the Citron DS 19 symbolized both French elegance and technological modernity. Its presence on the roads was an expression of the prestige and strength of the French state. The presidential Citroen DS 19 became famous all over the world thanks to its excellent driving characteristics. During the assassination attempt on President de Gaulle, the attackers destroyed two of its tires. Despite this, the driver kept control of the vehicle and managed to escape the attackers. Nobody was injured. Today, the Citron DS 19 driven by President De Gaulle remains an important piece of French automotive history and a testament to the close link between politics and the world of automobiles.
