To find the right strength for your lid, weigh it using a 2x4 board or other vertical support to hold the lid open. Place the board halfway between the hinge and the front edge, where the support will attach to the lid. Then, place a scale on the ground under the board. Multiply by 1.5 the weight that the scale reads for an estimation of the force support you’ll need.
