The prohibition was a constitutional ban, nationwide, on the production, sale, transportation, and importation of alcoholic beverages from 1920 to 1933. The movement up to the constitutional ban was led by pietistic protestants aming to heal what in their eyes was a sick society crippled with corruption, violence, and alcoholism.
