Description

A cardboard cutout of Russian Cosmonaut Alexei Leonov performs the first spacewalk in history. He exited the Voskhod capsule and stood out in space for 12 minutes and 9 seconds. CCCP on his helmet is in Cyrillic script as opposed to Latin script, so CCCP stands for Soviet Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. (SSSR) USSR is a more well-known abbreviation, however. As a mark of ending the space race, Leonov commanded the Soyuz capsule in the Soyuz-Apollo mission, a joint effort between Russia and USA. He received countless awards and honors. He is featured on the 1965 USSR 10 kopek stamp and attended the Starmus Festival with Stephen Hawking and Brian May.
