The toilet is a stand-alone system that can be used without the need of running water. The toilet uses the natural process of decomposition and evaporation to convert human waste into useful fertilizing soil. To simulate residential use, the Excel was tested by the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) at maximum capacity for 6 continuous months, during which the Excel produced no odor and produced clean, safe compost.
