Description

Sword Bean - Shironata Mame. Heirloom, Non-GMO. Canavalia gladiata. Also known as dao dou, habas, kacang parang, lal kudsum bal, nata mame, thua dap, to dou, wal awara. Warm season annual. 80-95 days. This tropical Japanese cultivated bean is only harvested when the pods are young and tender. The dense, glossy green pods are flat, have a ridged edge, and taste like snap beans. Large vines grow quickly and should be trellised. Prepare fertile, well-drained soil. Sow seeds in late spring/early summer after last frost in a sunny location. Keep soil moist. Fertilize as needed. Train to climb a vertical support. Harvest when 4-6 long and pods are still tender. Prepare young beans as you would green beans and thoroughly cook. Delicious steamed and in stir-fries. Approx 22 seeds / oz."
