NATURAL MATERIAL: This mat is made of 100% undyed sheep’s wool, all the way through. It will last significantly longer than foam or burlap alternatives without wearing out and can be composted when you’re through with it (zero waste). It is handmade in Nepal with New Zealand wool..ADVANTAGES OVER FOAM: Foam mats wear out and break down fairly quickly. As this happens, little bits of foam can get stuck in your artwork. Foam also makes a “crunching” sound during use that can be annoying. None of that happens with a wool mat. This mat will stand up to regular use for a very long time without breaking down or getting softer. It makes a quiet pleasant sound as your needle pokes into it..LARGE WORK SURFACE: You will have plenty of room to work on this mat, including for flat pictures and “wool paintings.” It measures a generous 11 x 11 x 2 inches thick making it ideal to hold on your lap while felting without being worried that your needles will poke through. Also works great on any table..FOR ALL TYPES OF FELTING: This mat works well for 2D flat felting OR 3D sculpting. It gives you a firm and comfortable surface to work on while still letting the needle push in far enough for 2D “painting with wool.” Like all mats for needle felting, it will collect some fiber on it. We recommend cleaning off the mat as much as possible after each use. You may want to use one side for light colored projects and the other side for dark colored projects.
