Description
Degas takes us into yet another Paris dance studio in this rendering of Dance Studio at the Opera. This behind-the-scenes look at the Paris Opera House includes lots of dancers practicing and observing along with two gentlemen who also get a behind-the-scenes look along with the viewer. Most of the dancers are on the perimeter. However one dancer approaches the center of the scene and our eyes are drawn to her as are the eyes of her observers. Over and over again Degas painted themes like this with dancers honing their craft. The limbs of each dancer in this painting are intricately rendered giving us a firm notion of form and movement.
