In a garden bed they'll reach 4 feet tall in the first year and up to 6 feet tall from then on. In a large container they’ll sit at around 4 feet. Plant in a sunny location with rich, well-draining soil. Keep the soil consistently moist, but not waterlogged, and fertilize in spring with a slow-release fertilizer. In colder climates, Zones 3-6, the rhizomes can be dug up and stored indoors over the winter. In warmer zones, cut the foliage to soil level and leave in the ground or in pots.
