This Pentek bacteriostatic kinetic degradation fluxion (KDF) and carbon filter cartridge reduces chlorine taste and odor, water-soluble heavy metals, and scale, and inhibits the growth of algae and bacteria in drinking water. The filter is made of granular activated carbon (GAC) to reduce chlorine taste and odor, and 1 pound of KDF 55 copper-zinc granules, which use redox (exchange of electrons) to effectively reduce heavy metals and inhibit the growth of algae and bacteria. It has a recommended flow rate of 1 gallon per minute (gpm). This KDF and GAC filter cartridge meets Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) standards for levels of zinc and copper in potable water, is certified by NSF International/American National Standards Institute (NSF/ANSI) standard 61.8, which limits the amount of lead in plumbing fixtures that come in contact with drinking water, and is for purification of rural and residential drinking water.
