Description

While the Subharmonicon Semi-Modular Polyrhythmic Analog Synthesizer may seem like a complex piece of equipment, it's an innovative musical device that offers a unique exploration into the world of subharmonics and polyrhythms. This semi-modular synthesizer employs a 6-tone sound engine and a multi-layered clock generator, creating a rich harmonic kaleidoscope of sound that evolves over time. The Subharmonicon's sound engine is powered by two analog Voltage Controlled Oscillators (VCOs) and four Subharmonic Oscillators, providing six potent sound sources. Each subharmonic tone is mathematically derived from one of the two main VCOs, resulting in beautifully coherent chord shapes. The onboard quantization feature allows for perfect intervals every time, with options for multiple tuning systems, including contemporary Equal Temperament settings, the divine intervals of Just Intonation, or the boundless freedom of no quantization. The Subharmonicon's unique sound is animated through a pair of polyrhythmic 4-Step Sequencers. Each sequencer is clocked by any or all of four Rhythm Generators that output mathematical divisions of the master tempo. By layering multiple Rhythm Generators, you can create complex polyrhythms and discover new patterns and styles. The Subharmonicon also features dual Envelope Generators, a Moog Ladder Filter, and an analog Voltage Controlled Amplifier (VCA) to produce dynamic articulations ranging from lush pads and blurred edges to percussive plosives and ritualistic rhythms. The 32-point 3.5mm modular patchbay expands the Subharmonicon's capabilities and can be interfaced with Mother-32, DFAM, and other external Eurorack-compatible gear. The Subharmonicon can be used as a standalone synth with the included +12V DC power supply or installed into any Eurorack system.Drawing inspiration from Joseph Schillinger's mathematical system for musical composition and influenced by the Mixtur-Trautonium and the Rhythmicon, the Subharmonicon is a versatile analog labyrinth of subharmonically derived synthesis and polyrhythmic sound. It's an instrument that invites you to lose yourself in the creation of sound while simultaneously finding new musical paths.
