The filter medium traps particles, keeping them from traveling with the fluid throughout the system. Stens transmission filters also seal the system to keep additional contaminants from entering. When indicated in the product specifications, Stens transmission filters have pressure relief valves and anti-drain valves. Pressure relief valves open to allow transmission fluid to flow if the filter medium becomes too saturated. This valve protects the transmission from fluid starvation. An anti-drain valve prevents fluid from emptying from the filter when the transmission is off. This feature is important so that the transmission receives sufficient fluid when started. An anti-drain valve reduces transmission wear that can occur due to insufficient fluid on start up.
