Overview

The Islamic Revolution in the secular age and in the island of stability, questioned many fundamental concepts of international power. The Islamic Revolution emerged in a country that was one of the two pillars of stability in favor of great powers in the Nixon doctrine. Indeed, the Iranian Revolution, which represent new discourse base on Islamic nature, opened a third path between two camps of communism and capitalism. The Islamic Revolution of Iran illustrated a necessity to rethink on key concepts of the International Relations (IR). Only a few decades later, it questioned foundations of postwestphalian IR theories. In other words, the phenomenon of the Islamic Revolution and its widespread effects on the world showed that the mainstream IR theories are not capable to represent properly what is happening in the international arena. In fact, the main challenge was mostly due to materialist approach of the theories when they were dealing with international developments. It is worth mentioning that, however, the Islamic Revolution itself was a starting point in retheorizing revolutions.
