About the Author

Alex Green Rodriguez the author was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico. The largest city on the south part of the island Ponce became garrison for Americans after the invasion of 1898, during the Spanish American War.
The second son to Angel Green Feliciano and Isabel Rodriguez Marrero; Alex graduated from Ponce High School, married his High School sweetheart Carmen L. Ortiz Echevarría, had their first son Alexis and joined the Army in 1982.
Christmas of the same year Alex fell ill to pneumonia and tuberculosis while visiting the family on holiday leave. Fifteen of his twenty days of leave were spent in the quarantine ward of the Veteran’s Hospital in San Juan. It was a miracle that Doctors were able to give him a clean bill of health for duty, one day before he was due to report at Fort Knox, Kentucky. During his service Alex would find the answers to his questions.
The child that was always asking questions, Alex began his interest on genealogy on 1983. With a last name Green from his father side and part of a Spanish culture, the obvious question was; why do I have an American last name? Oddly as it may sound, not much was known about it, but the fact that his great grandfather was an American soldier, Ebb Green from Tennessee. He was part of the soldiers stationed at Ponce, Puerto Rico during and after the Spanish American War. The person with more knowledge about the subject of the family’s history was Alex’s oldest uncle Juan Antonio (Tony) Green Peréz. The story began with a soldier and a local native girl falling in love, marrying, and having three boys.
