Description
Lion - Nebuchadnezzar II is a Belgian made jacquard wall tapestry. This artwork is an extract from the very well known Ishtar Gate in Babylon, est. 604 - 562 BCE. The wall painting leads from the temple of Marduk to the temple of Akitu, passing through the gate of Ishtar. This Lion represents the main quality of the Goddess. A reconstruction of the Ishtar Gate and Processional Way was built at the Pergamon Museum in Berlin out of material excavated by Robert Koldewey and finished in the 1930s.
