Description
Bright Kofi Agbetey captures the piercing gaze of Ghana's sacred crocodiles with this teak wood sculpture. Etched crosshatching along the back creates the illusion of scales. In the town of Paga, some believe the souls of the ancestors live in aquatic reptiles that inhabit the sacred pond, and the creatures are remarkably docile. The Ghanaian designer names his wood carving Odenkeyem, which means "crocodile" in the Akan Twi language.
