BLUE-EYED GRASS Sisyrinchium albidum, commonly known as white blue-eyed grass (despite it having blue flowers), is a species of flowering wildflower that is native to eastern North America. The outer part of the flower, including the petals, is soft violet & 8–10 mm long. The stem of Sisyrinchium albidum is commonly pale grey & threadlike, measuring 0.2 to 0.5 m high & 0.5 to 1 mm wide. Similarly, its narrow, stiff leaves are 0.5 to 1 mm wide. Type: Perennial Height: 8" Location: Sun or part shade Hardiness zones: 4-9 Germination: Requires cold stratification. See germination information below. Multiple packs can be ordered by adjusting the quantity above, or combine shipping with other seeds we offer. GERMINATION These seeds require extra care & time to germinate. As with many perennials, these seeds benefit from a period of moist cold to help them grow. This is done by giving them a cold 'winter' period (artificial or natural), & then a warming to simulate 'spring', & time to grow! Here's how this can be done: Obtain a planting container that has holes in the bottom for excess water to drain. Place the seeds just under the surface of your growing medium, & water. Place your container in a cold area (but not freezing, perhaps a refrigerator) for 5-6 weeks. Once the cold period is completed, place the container at room temperature for them to germinate. Be sure to keep the soil moist during this entire germination period. Seedlings will sprout a few weeks, or occasionally several months, after the warming period.
