Description

James Turrell LAcmA Retrospective replica poster -Other print sizes (in inches) available per request - This iconic LAcmA poster featuring Purusa, 2011 (from the Ganzfeld series) by James Turrell is a remarkable piece of art history. James Turrell: A Retrospective (2013-14) explored nearly fifty years in the career of James Turrell (b. 1943, Los Angeles), a key artist in the Southern California Light & Space movement of the 1960s & 70s. The exhibition included early geometric light projections, prints & drawings, installations exploring sensory deprivation & seemingly unmodulated fields of colored light, & recent two-dimensional work with holograms. One section is devoted to the Turrell masterwork in process, Roden Crater, a site-specific intervention into the landscape just outside Flagstaff, Arizona, presented through models, plans, photographs, & films. Turrell uses the German word "Ganzfeld" to installations like Purusa, in which visitors enter a room that seems to have no limits, with its own, especially composed light sequence. This triggers a paradox phenomenon: the visitor's attention turns from outside to inside, changing into a kind of meditative observing. "In a way," explains the artist, "light unites the spiritual world with the ephemeral, physical world." ABOUT THE PRINT Museum-quality poster made on thick & durable matte paper.
