ABOUT THE ARTIST: The honored academician of the Ukrainian Academy of Architecture Born in 1918 in Kyiv to a family of doctors. in 1937 a young Osyp enrolled at Kyiv Institute of Art, the faculty of architecture. As a senior student he transferred to Moscow Institute of Architecture that he graduated from in 1943. Osyp became a member of the Union of Architects of Ukraine in 1946. He worked in several state enterprises, completing courses in the workshops of Borys Pryimak & Lev Katko. As an architect he projected a wide range of buildings in Kyiv, receiving the title of an honored academician of the Ukrainian Academy of Architecture. Osyp started taking a keen interest in painting somewhere at the end of 1950s. First, he set out to paint landscapes & still-lifes in a traditional canon. His works were fresh, new, & full of harmony & lyrical aspects. At the end of 1960s the painter began searching for new approaches. He went on to create avant-garde paintings. He wanted to rethink the works of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Henri Matisse. With time passing, Osyp concentrated not on a human body, but on "an internal vision" thereof. However, he sometimes got back to painting realistic forms. The images of a woman belong to his central themes in 2000s. The series of works from that time is called "To woman with love". The artist's works were widely exhibited in Ukraine. A total of 15 personal exhibitions were held. A professor & painter, Yuri Khymych, said of Mr. Kryvohlaz, "Osyp's every work contains a sort of realized simplicity expressed in a harmony of colors & subtlety of symbols. His works are full of joy & optimism. One gets an impression that the author's world is full of peace, beauty & equilibrium" House in The Village, Ukrainian Vintage Painting By Osip Krivoglaz.
