On offer here is a set of 15 early 20th-century American postage stamps acquired from a collector in Prague. All have been postmarked, except one which seems unused. There are some with George Washington, as well as commemorative stamps. The list of stamps includes; 1) 1943 2¢ "Nations United For Victory" U.S. Postage Stamp issued as part of a campaign to raise support for U.S. involvement in World War II. Perforated, postmarked "510" written on the back in pencil. (U.S. #907) 2) 1938 12¢ Zachary Taylor Presidential Series postage stamp. Known affectionately as the "Prexies," the 1938 Presidential series is a favorite among stamp collectors. Perforated, postmarked "424A" written on the back in pencil. (U.S. #817) 3) 1938 30¢ Theodore Roosevelt 1938 Presidential Series postage stamp. Known affectionately as the "Prexies," the 1938 Presidential series is a favorite among stamp collectors. Perforated, postmarked "437A" written on the back in pencil. (U.S. #830) 4) 1893 2¢ Columbian Commemorative postage stamp. Issued in advance of Chicago's 1893 World Columbian Exposition, an international fair celebrating the 400th anniversary of Christopher Columbus' 1492 arrival in the New World. The series was used to advertise the event - the first time postage stamps were used to promote a commercial event. Perforated, postmarked "74" written on the back in pencil. (U.S. #806) 9) 1925 1/2¢ Nathan Hale Flat Plate Printing postage stamp. in 1847, when the printing presses first began to move, they didn't roll - they "stamped" in a process known as flat plate printing. The Regular Series of 1922 was the last to be printed by flat plate press, after which stamps were produced by rotary press printing. Perforated, postmarked "259" written on the back in pencil.
