The first dimension is the depth. That is the part that will hold your board between the wall & the lip that's on the end of the bracket. The second dimension is the part that will mount to the wall, brick, stone, ect. The lip is 3-1/2" tall. If you need a different size lip, please send a message & let me know. The brackets are made from heavy 4" wide USA steel that is 1/4" thick! We handmake all of our products in NC with locally sourced materials. These rustic modern brackets can be used to support mantels or large shelves. Choose from our powder coat colors or bare/raw metal with no finish. The Bare/raw metal is paint ready or for a more rustic look you can leave them alone. - Price is for ONE bracket. Hardware is not included - Your order ships in 1-2 business days!
