Description

Currier & Ives was a successful American printmaking firm based in New York City from 1834 to 1907. The firm produced prints from paintings by fine artists as black & white lithographs that were hand colored. Lithographic prints were reproduced quickly & inexpensively, making them easily available to the American public. Currier & Ives prints were among the household decorations considered "appropriate for a proper home" by Catharine Esther Beecher & Harriet Beecher Stowe, authors of American Woman's Home (1869). Between 1950 & 1970, Royal China (USA) produced a line of blue & white transferware featuring a Currier & Ives center scene accented by scrolls on the rim. This listing is for a set of four 6-3/8" bread plates in the "Currier & Ives" pattern. The center scene on the plates is Harvest. Classic Americana! Pair these plates with other blue & white transferware for added interest for your table. The plates are in very good vintage used condition; light utensil marks. Note the plates do not carry a maker's mark; some have an embossed USA on the back. On close inspection there are subtle variations in the plates. I offer for sale a wide variety of china, dinnerware & pottery. I hope you'll spend some time browsing through the selection in my shop. http://www.etsy.com/shop/JosChinaShop L0222 Royal China | USA "Currier & Ives" Blue & White Ironstone Transferware Harvest Design - Set Of Four Bread Plates
