Description

Very nice set of 2 vintage oyster plates in the shape of a fish, made of German Waechtersbach ceramics. The oyster plates are made of glazed pottery in light gray, taupe color. The edge, like the head & tail, is colored slightly darker with soft gray & pinkish colors, with the edge serrated to mimic the fins on the back & belly of the fish. The fin just behind the head is also applied to the board in the slightly darker color. The oyster boards are both in excellent condition, but at 1 board there is a small chip (hardly visible but wants to mention it) on the back of the board. The oyster plates date from the 50s. The oyster plates are equipped with 6 oyster bowls around the dish, each decorated with a pronounced oyster shell embossed in the plate. The central lemon bowl has the shape of a broken mussel shell with 2 lobes. The sign is a design by Albin Müller (Darmstadt Artists' Colony) from 1906 but is timelessly classic. On the back is the serving dish marked "Waechtersbach - Made in Western Germany". The oyster plates date back to the 1950s & were manufactured at the Wächtersbach Steingut factory in Schlierbach, Germany. The oyster board is 27 cm (9.9 inches) long & 25 cm wide Diameter oyster shell: 7 cm (2.9 inches) Lemon bowl diameter: 6cm (2.1 inches) Weight per plate: 626 grams They are 2 very nice, special oyster dishes of German porcelain in the shape of a fish. The glaze is from the plates is still perfect.
