Flower Offering Crystalline Urn 5 1/2" tall including finial flower top & 4 1/2" wide & holds about 40 lbs. living weight of ashes & is a lovely addition wherever it is placed. Crystalline glazing is a particularly beautiful & equally involved process. The pieces are brought to a high temperature quickly in the kiln & then soaked at a slightly lower temperature to allow for the special crystals to form from the zinc "seeds" in the glaze. A special "pedastal" must be made for each piece to catch the glaze as it runs down the vase. When removed from the kiln the piece must be carefully separated from the pedastal & then the foot is ground smooth. The fluid glaze often runs onto the underside of the lid & must be ground down with a diamond bit as well. Each piece has a clear, interior liner glaze. Crystals sparkle like snowflakes when displayed in natural or under bright lights. The wooden base is in variations for $22. The lid can be temporarily sealed with museum wax or permanently sealed with an epoxy glue.
