Here is a beautiful vintage set of photo postcards of Marken, Holland, circa 1970's. The photos focus on the traditional attire worn by Marken women & children as well as the famous tiny stilted houses found only in Maken. There are eight 3.5" X 5.5" glossy color photo cards bound in a made-for-mailing tourist packet, unused & in fine condition. Produced by Spanjersberg of Rotterdam. The photos themselves are in especially excellent condition with crystal clear images & vibrant color; they appear as near mint. The backsides are freckled with age fading. Marken became an island in the Zuiderzee when it was separated from the mainland in the 13th century by a storm. There followed centuries of isolation for the population & its culture. Marken was reconnected to the mainland in 1957 by the construction of a dike, & it has been a peninsula since then. Nonetheless, Marken has still kept its authentic character & the residents cherish their culture & traditions.
