Before placing the set metal traps, locate the characteristic fan-shaped soil gopher mound and remove the soil plug from the center of the fresh mound. Dig 6 in to 8 in. below the surface until you reach the 2 gopher tunnels and place the set traps inside this hole back-to-back as gopher control occurs most frequently when 2 traps are set under the mound in opposite directions.
