Sharks! - Nonfiction Sindy McKay Author
Shop on Barnes & Noble

Gr 3—This book offers plenty of facts for students interested in sharks. On each spread, the verso has a full-color photo or painting with a paragraph of text underneath designed to be read by older readers or adults. The recto also has a colorful image plus a sentence or two of information written for younger readers. A few of the illustrations appear faded but this will not deter pre-, emerging, or fluent readers. The scope is balanced and covers a variety shark species, habitats, reproduction, and diet and encourages humans to learn about and protect these creatures. This welcome addition to nonfiction collections offers more information than Adreinne Bets's Sharks! Find Out What Makes These Super Fish Special (HarperCollins, 2005) and Allan Fowler's The Best Way to See a Shark (Children's Press, 1995) and complements Gail Gibbons's Sharks! (Holiday House, 1992).—Laura Scott, Farmington Community Library, MI
