We tested these "As Seen on TV" kitchen gadgets and found five actually worth picking up the phone for.

Cut the fat: NuWave Oven

$100; NuWaveOven.com

The spiel: It uses a trio of convection, conduction and infrared heat to cook food fast. Plus, the raised rack makes sure you lose the extra grease.

Our take: The NuWave takes up room on the kitchen counter but is worth it. The oven delivers on its promise to help you make leaner but still delicious meals. “My burger came out juicy even though I watched the fat drip away,” says SELF beauty blogger Alex Samuel. You can also use it to make lighter potato chips and fries. The setup and directions are intuitive, too. “If you can use a microwave, you can master the NuWave,” Samuel says.

The love: "My burger came out juicy even though I watched the fat drip away," says beauty editor Alex Samuel.

Free up space: Chef Basket

$10; ChefBasket.com

The spiel: With 12 uses (!), such as steaming, straining and boiling, this gizmo does it all. Plus, the handles stay cool.

Our take: “Draining pasta was 100 percent easier,” says associate public relations director Lindsey Benoit. “I didn’t burn my fingers or have to deal with an annoying steam facial.” Steaming veggies is also simpler with the basket, which makes healthy cooking a breeze. Another nice feature: The Chef Basket folds up, so it fits in even the smallest kitchen, and it eliminates the need for other gadgets because it has so many uses. Plus, it doesn’t take much time—or effort—to clean.

The love: "Draining pasta was easier," says SELF senior public relations manager Lindsey Benoit. "No annoying steam facial. And the basket folds up, so it fits in my tiny kitchen."

The Slap Chop

Slash prep time: Slap Chop

$20; SlapChop.com

The spiel: Load ingredients, like nuts, seeds and veggies, and slap 'em to bits.

Our take: The Slap Chop definitely cuts down on prep time. “It got the job done in half the time it takes to use a knife,” says senior market editor Kristen Saladino. “A huge bonus: You can chop onions tear-free!” The product comes apart easily to clean, but putting it back together can be a bit more challenging. “It was a little like a jigsaw puzzle,” Saladino says.

The spiel: Melt chocolate evenly for baking or for dipping goodies fondue-style.

Our take: “It was a cinch to use,” says freelance designer Carolyn LiRosi. “The chocolate melted in less than 10 minutes.” Cleanup is fast, too. The Chocolatiere is perfect for making effortless, healthy desserts such as berries dunked in dark chocolate.

The love: "Setup and cleanup were a breeze, and the chocolate melted in less than 10 minutes," says freelance designer Carolyn LiRosi. "It's great for going healthy—dark chocolate and berries."

Save cash: Genius Air Plus Refrigerator Refresher & Deodorizer

$25; QVC.com

The spiel: Stash it in the fridge to absorb ethylene, a gas emitted by fruit and veggies that ages them, so produce stays fresh longer.

Our take: “It’s totally easy to use—turn it on and stick it into your fridge,” says associate health editor Anna Maltby. “It keeps herbs and vegetables fresh for longer, and even more pleasantly, it keeps the fridge smelling clean.” Best part: It saves you money because you don’t have to shop for fresh stuff nearly as often.

The love: "I'm saving money because I don't have to shop for fresh stuff nearly as often," says associate health editor Anna Maltby.

Russia claims to have created a devastating hypersonic missile that travels five times faster than the speed of sound and could rip through navy warship defences because it's too fast to stop. The Kremlin's Zircon missile has been called "unstoppable", "unbeatable" and "undefendable" with a 4,600mph speed that only one defence system in the world can destroy – that system is owned by Russia. The missile employs revolutionary scramjet technology to reach its hypersonic speeds whereby propulsion is created by forcing air from the atmosphere into its combustor where it mixes with on-board fuel – rather than carry both fuel and oxidizer like traditional rockets.

    • After Trump spent the weekend on his golf course, Fox News sends out an odd 'news alert'

Some critics of President Trump and the news media argue that political commentators have set an unusually low bar for Trump. At 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, the news division of Fox News sent out this "news alert": In fact, Trump spent Saturday and Sunday at his golf course in Sterling, Virginia. His staff said he was in meetings, but social media posts showed he was wearing his golf attire and spending time on the links. "Normally, I'd suggest that everyone cool it with the golf snark," notes Kevin Drum at Mother Jones. "We've now had four consecutive presidents who have taken endless grief every time they hit the links, and it's pretty stupid." But not only was this Trump's 13th trip to one of his

    • When it wouldn't stop raining, this family did a muddy maternity photoshoot instead (15 photos)

(All photos courtesy of Elaine Baca, Lane B Photograph ) Parenting is messy, but as this family of four show, it can also be plenty of fun. Jon and Brittany Barton were planning a maternity shoot to celebrate their third child, but the weather was proving to be very uncooperative. “In Waxahachie, Texas when it rains it pours. In the weeks leading up to the maternity session, the rain was relentless,” said photographer Elaine Baca of Lane B Photography . “We had rescheduled the session a couple of times already and Brittany was quickly approaching the end of her pregnancy, so we knew he might come any day.” Baca went back and forth with the Bartons discussing outfits and alternative indoor locations but the family were very outdoorsy and knew that simply wasn’t them. “Then I suggested something a little unconventional. They have a huge backyard which backs up to a field and I knew it had lots of muddy puddles, so I asked her what she thought about playing in the rain and ending with a mud fight. I don’t think she even hesitated, she said she trusted my vision and wanted to go for it!” said Baca. So with Declan, 4, and Noah, 2, in tow, the family spent the day getting up to some muddy mischief and the results were amazing! “For me, photo sessions are all about preserving memories and making new ones. With small children it’s about remembering their ever changing personalities and quirks that make them unique,” Baca said. “[This way] parents don’t have to stress about getting their little ones to sit still and look at the camera and kids get to be kids while doing something everyone enjoys.” And the Bartons definitely looked like they enjoyed themselves alright! • Watch the new ‘Justice League’ trailer (and the Avengers’ hilarious reaction to it)

Years of anticipation have led to this moment. On Saturday, Warner Bros. Pictures and DC shared the first official trailer for Justice League , giving fans an extended look at the superhero team-up movie that everyone has been keeping a close eye on since Man of Steel hit theaters back in 2013. Justice League will build upon the stories of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and this summer's  Wonder Woman , following Bruce and Diana as they attempt to build a team of heroes to take on a massive threat: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3cxixDgHUYw Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions. Having failed to win over critics with Man of Steel , Batman v Superman or Suicide Squad , this is DC's chance to turn things around for its movie universe. And while Marvel fans might not be particularly worried about Justice League stealing the spotlight, the Avengers themselves are preparing for the worst. YouTube user DrMachakil put together a reaction video featuring Marvel's brightest stars just hours after the Justice League trailer went live, and it's genuinely pretty funny: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4_5HV5MR2Bg Justice League arrives in theaters on November 17th, 2017.
