Worst celebrity fragrances ever

Whether you like it or not, celebrity fragrances aren’t going anywhere anytime soon.

Worst celebrity fragrances
Purr by Katy Perry

According to marketing research firm NPD Group, there are over 500 celebrity fragrances released every year.

Karen Grant, Vice President Beauty/Senior Global Industry Analyst for The NPD Group, announced that celebrity fragrances sales have managed to pull in over $1.3 billion at a recent Fragrance Foundation panel.

But, in the eyes of a normal consumer such as you and I, what really makes for a winning celebrity scent?

“It’s all about celebrity involvement,” Dina Fierro of Eye4Style.com, said. “It sounds so obvious, but the reality of the celebrity fragrance business is that very few celebs have done fragrance the right way.”

Jeannine Morris, of BeautySweetSpot.com, agrees.

“They only work when the scent is true to who the celebrity is,” she said. “The fragrance should reflect the brand and personality of the celebrity, from the notes to the packaging.”

However, while there are tons of celebrities who may get part of this equation correct, there are still plenty others who just don’t seem to hit the nail on the head when it comes to accomplishing the perfect combination. So, being the beauty guru that I am, I tested out a slew of celebrity fragrances and got feedback from some of the top beauty bloggers in the game to bring you 5 of the worst.

Bad Formula : Purr by Katy Perry

The first scent by the recently divorced pop star comes packaged in the form of a purple cat and features Katy dressed up in matching skin-tight cat suit within the advertising.

While I really wanted to like this scent, I found it to be very watered down and lasting no more than two seconds upon spritzing it on my skin. Then, I thought maybe if I put on a bit more, that would make it last longer! But, sadly, the scent had disappeared before I’d even made it out the door.

“While I love the packaging, I felt like Purr left a lot to be desired,” Katz said.

Snooki's perfume

Horrible Smell : Snooki by Nicole Polizzi

While I’m super happy to hear that the Jersey Shore starlet recently gave birth to a healthy boy, I can honestly that’s probably the only news she’s ever released that I actually cared about.

Last year, Nicole launched her own signature fragrance called “Snooki” which features colored leopard print packaging. The scent itself is super sweet (pink cupcake accord and sugared musk are just some of its main ingredients).

I remember watching her sell it on HSN and cringing while hearing her describe the various places she liked to spray it before clubbing or “smushing.”

“Unfortunately a lot of celebrity fragrances smell very mass/cheap and standard-issue,” says Amber Katz of BeautyBloggingJunkie.com. “Snooki’s smells like a baby prostitute, to quote Janis Ian from Mean Girls.”

Boyfriend perfume by Kate Walsh

Confusing Scent : Boyfriend by Kate Walsh

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with a woman smelling like a man sometimes.

As a fan of unisex scents (Calvin Klein always manages to do a great job in this department!), I don’t really think the whole idea of this particular fragrance hit the nail on the head.

Apparently, Walsh created this fragrance with the intent of capturing the scent of a man on a woman. While the packaging is different (it features several male names emblazoned all over the bottle) it definitely doesn’t live up to its scented hype.

“I was kind of put off by the marketing for this,” Katz confessed. “I wouldn’t want to smell like this, but I’m guessing the draw here is trying to mimic your boyfriend’s scent – if your boyfriend is a lumberjack.”

Unbreakable by Khloe Kardashian and Lamar

Marketing Oversaturation : Unbreakable by Khloe & Lamar

Oh, the Kardashians. Pretty much everyone in the world knows who they are, so its no surprise that Khloe’s husband, NBA star Lamar Odom, would jump on their over-saturated bandwagon as well.

Following in the footsteps of big sister Kim Kardashian (who is popping out celebrity fragrances left and right) baby sister Khloe created a unisex scent along with Odom. A perfectly good idea, but not so great when you think about the fact that the couple also had their own reality spin-off, which came out around the same time as the fragrance launch. Marketing oversaturation anyone?

“I’m so over the Kardashian anything,” Jeannine Amber of BeautyBloggingJunkie.com said. “It seems they’ll stamp their name on anything, so who knows how much they really get into the creative process?”

Selena Gomez perfume

The One that got Away : Selena Gomez

Not to be outdone with her loving boyfriend Justin Beiber, Gomez launched a signature fragrance earlier this year. It may not be raking in the millions that Beiber’s has (his women’s fragrances have literally dominated the celebrity fragrance industry, next to Elizabeth Taylor, of course), but I give her accolades for at least trying.

It’s easy to judge her scent before you even take a whiff as the bottle features these strange lip attachments that stick out of the top (I still haven’t figured out what they’re supposed to be). The fragrance itself smells super sweet and is very light, much like you would imagine a teenage scent to be. But, I feel like this is one that never quite made it onto the celebrity fragrance radar, like Lady Gaga’s or Nicki Minaj’s have. I mean, be honest: did you even know it existed before reading this article?

Fierro confessed that she’d heard about Selena’s scent but never took a whiff of it.

“I was so disinterested that I didn’t even respond to PR pitches for it,” she said.

If your pet is drooling or foaming at the mouth look for these lady bugs. They cause ulcers on the tongue and mouth and have a very painful bite,” she wrote on the Hoisington

Last year was a new experience for Jeremy Lin. It was his first season as a Charlotte Hornet. (Also his last, at least for the time being.) It was his first season playing off the ball. It was also his first playing almost exclusively as a bench player. More than 80 percent of Lin’s appearances came as a reserve. 2015-16 also saw Lin put up his highest usage rate since his breakout campaign as a Knick back in 2011-12 while setting a career-best turnover percentage mark. His role shrunk, but he used his time more wisely, and though he wasn’t tremendously efficient as a Hornet, Lin showed a level of versatility to his game.
