Orange Juice Taste Test

Whether you enjoy orange juice with your breakfast or with a mid-day snack, OJ is one of the most beloved beverages. In fact, Americans drink around 3.2 gallons of orange juice per person, per year! When purchasing the citrus-flavored treat, buy juices labeled 100% orange juice to ensure you're getting only OJ. Some other terms you'll find on the packaging:

PASTEURIZED
Almost all supermarket orange juice is pasteurized (heated to a high temperature), increasing its shelf life and ensuring that the juice doesn't separate.

FROZEN CONCENTRATED ORANGE JUICE (FCOJ)
This is orange juice with the water removed. When prepared according to package directions, FCOJ has about the same amount of vitamin C as not-from-concentrate juice.

FROM CONCENTRATE
Water has been removed from this juice for storage, then added back in before bottling. In terms of nutrition and price, buying a carton of OJ "from concentrate" is about the same as mixing it yourself.

FORTIFIED ORANGE JUICE
These varieties have added nutrients. Choose ones that have the same Percent Daily Value of calcium (30% DV) and vitamin D (25% DV) as a glass of milk.

Dear Amy: My in-laws always seem to feel the need to comment on people's weight, either right to their faces at a family function or gossiping about it behind their backs. Ironically, they are not exactly thin. My brother-in-law and his wife are quite heavy (my brother-in-law much more so), but his parents (my in-laws) only comment about his wife, exaggerating her weight over his. My mother-in-law has said to my daughter, in front of everyone at Thanksgiving, "You were pretty heavy there for a while, but you look pretty good now." My daughter is the recipient of at least one insult per visit. These comments are usually made during holidays, and with these zingers being hurled on a regular basis,

    • 'Jeopardy' contestant gives Trebek the finger

In the small talk portion of Wednesday night’s “Jeopardy! College Championship” edition, Stanford undergrad Viraj Mehta slyly flipped Alex Trebek the bird while talking about differential geometry and pizza. Mehta, a Texas native, got going about a theorem in differential geometry “that explains really, well, why, if you fold a slice of pizza, the tip stays in the air so you can eat it easily,” all the while flashing his own single-digit salute in the air. The brazen gesticulation went on for about seven seconds before Mehta wrapped up his explanation, adding that it “was really cool to work out in class.” Trebek appears not to notice when he chalks up Mehta’s theorem to “thick crust.” Twitter
